APEX APEX381
July 2005—The APEX381 ($109) dynamic mic from Apex Electronics (www.apexelectronics.com) uses a neodymium magnet and aluminum alloy voicecoil to yield high output. A tight cardioid pattern maximizes gain before feedback, and an internal double shock-mount system significantly reduces handling noise. The APEX381 has a leather-feel finish for positive grip. Frequency response is 50 to 18k Hz with a max SPL of 140 dB; impedance is 300 ohms.

APEX APEX115
July 2005—Compact size and light weight make the APEX115 ($159) hypercardioid condenser a smart choice for situations where high performance is required from an unobtrusive mic. The mic requires phantom power to operate (48V DC). Frequency response is 70 to 19k Hz with an S/N ratio of 65 dB.

APEX INTELLI-X
January 2005—The Apex Intelli-X equalizer and speaker management system was designed to complement Apex's Intelli-Q real-time system optimizer. The 24-bit, converter-equipped Intelli-X provides four analog and digital inputs, eight analog outs and substantial DSP power. Each input offers adjustable delay, 30-band graphic EQ, 10-band full parametric EQ and two shelving EQs. The unit's 4×8 matrix is a routing free-for-all, while all outputs offer adjustable delay, high- and lowpass filters, two shelving EQs, an 8-band parametric EQ, a fully adjustable limiter and phase reverse. All processes are always available and processing power need not be allocated. PC operation is via standard control software, which can also handle corresponding Intelli-Q units from the same computer. Its front panel includes a graphic display, metering and a headphone jack for I/O monitoring while troubleshooting.

APEX INTELLI-X EQUALIZER AND SPEAKER-MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
January 2004—On the heels of its Intelli-Q stereo digital EQ, Belgian company Apex introduced the Intelli-X Equalizer and Speaker-Management System. Its four inputs can simultaneously provide a half-second of delay, eight bands of parametric EQ, two shelving filters, plus a 30-band graphic EQ. There are also two stereo AES/EBU digital inputs. Multiple Intelli-X processors can be networked with Windows software, allowing control of combinations of Intelli-Qs and Intelli-Xs from the same PC via a USB connection and the Apex RJ-45 serial bus. The Intelli-X has an optional one-rack-unit Intelli-Sense speaker-protection system that continuously monitors the true RMS power delivered to the speakers and adjusts the Intelli-X's internal limiters to prevent thermal failure of transducers.

APEX INTELLI-X
November 2003—Apex of Belgium introduced its Intelli-X comprehensive 4-by-8 speaker management system, offering 256 EQ filters and 50 presets, employing 24-bit converters, with AES inputs also available. Notable features on the 1U front panel are 10-segment LED meters, plus USB and serial connections for laptops. An optional 1U accessory is the “Intelli-Sense” servo system, which continuously monitors RMS power delivered to the speakers and adjusts limiters.

APEX INTELLI-Q
May 2003—Apex introduced the Intelli-Q Real-Time System Optimizer ($4,450 list), a 2-channel processor that’s controlled from a Windows PC. Its GUI layers the various types of EQ to show the interaction of graphic, parametric, highpass and shelving filters.
