BSS AUDIO SOUNDWEB LONDON VERSION 1.14
August 2007—At InfoComm, BSS Audio (www.bssaudio.com) showed a hardware/software update for its Soundweb London range. Users involved with teleconferencing will be interested in software Version 1.14;. When combined with a new, dedicated SHARC DSP card, it provides Acoustic Echo Cancellation technology. The card requires a new BLU Series interface (models BLU-80A/32A/16A); these are identical to the existing BLU models except that they have a larger power supply to handle the needs of the SHARC card. Also new is a BLU-555 telephone hybrid.
BSS AUDIO FDS-366 VERSION 2
January 2005—Version 2 software for BSS Audio's lauded FDS-366 Omnidrive Compact Plus adds the first pro audio implementation of Whiseworks-Neville Thiele Method filter technology. This feature lets users increase loudspeakers' operating bandwidths without overdriving. The Windows 2000/XP platform software also lets engineers use a wireless tablet PC with a stylus for control. The FDS-366 can drive a true stereo three-way system or three bi-amp outs for monitoring purposes. Adding extra units and MIDI slave-linking allows for up to six-way stereo systems. Also new is BSS' Soundweb London programmable DSP/matrix systems. London offers increased I/O flexibility, dual-redundant CobraNet audio networking, more efficient DSP via Analog Devices SHARC processors and a new core system design package.
BSS OMNIDRIVE COMPACT PLUS T
January 2004—BSS Omnidrive Compact plus T is the newest version of the only top-shelf processor with three inputs. BSS' new FDS-366T provides a new crossover type from Australian audiophile company Whise, designed by Neville Thiele. His filters are comparable to Linkwitz-Riley topology, but with steeper roll-offs (36 and 52 dB/octave). The Neville Thiele Method filters maintain phase coherence thoughout the crossover region and sum for flat response. Speaker designers can use them to increase efficiency and widen a driver's bandwidth. Most programs employing L-R filters can substitute NTM filters without further changes, though steeper slopes can permit further optimization of crossover frequencies and out-of-band EQ.
BSS MINIDRIVE FDS-336T
January 2004—The BSS MiniDrive FDS-336T is the newest version of the company's entry-level product. It now also includes the Neville Thiele filters recently added to the Compact plus, and older units can be flash-upgraded, as can the older 366s. While lacking a few features such as dynamic EQ, the third input, AES/EBU ports and the Alignment Assistant found on the plus, the 336T offers BSS quality to a wider audience. It's also available with four outputs as the FDS-334T, which is better suited to bi-amp monitor applications.
BSS AUDIO SOUNDWEB LITE 3088
October 2003—The demand for simple, stand-alone DSP processing has led BSS Audio to introduce the Soundweb Lite 3088 programmable digital audio system. The new 8x8 unit draws on the success of the larger networked Soundweb 9088iis and associated products, but provides a less-expensive alternative for situations where the design requires a maximum of eight inputs and eight outputs. The 3088 possess all of the capabilities of the networked version and runs under the common Soundweb Designer platform.
