CARVIN LS SERIES SPEAKERS
February 2007—Designed for club installs or portable use, Carvin's (www.carvin.com) LS Series has three two-way systems, three three-way systems and two optional subs, priced from $399 to $799. All feature steel grilles, recessed handles, high-order/low-loss crossovers, cross-laminated plywood construction, Neutrik Speakon and ¼-inch connectors, and Duratuff finishes. All are bi-ampable, except the smallest LS1002. The two-way models have 10/12/15-inch woofers with titanium HF drivers and can be used as house or monitor speakers. Highs on the three-way models are handled by a 1-inch exit-compression driver on a 90×60-degree Constant Directivity horn. The three-way LS1503 pairs the HF with a 15-inch woofer and 6-inch cone mid; the LS1523 combines dual 15-inch woofers and twin 6-inch mids with the HF complement; and the LS2153 uses a 15-inch woofer and 15-inch LF/MF driver with the HF package. Single- and dual-18-inch subwoofers are optional.
CARVIN CM68
July 2005—A unidirectional dynamic microphone, the CM68 ($199) from Carvin features a slight presence rise in the mid-frequency range for increased intelligibility. A built-in foam windscreen increases rejection of breath and wind noise, and the cardioid polar pattern yields excellent off-axis performance and feedback control. Frequency response is 45 to 15k Hz.
CARVIN S/L56
January 2003—The dual-inline S/L56 56-input analog console from Carvin offers a high feature-per-dollar ratio. Also standard are two midsweep EQ bands/channel, a switchable low-cut filter to free up wasted power in the bottom end and a rackmount 400-watt power supply (more than double the S/L56’s requirement). Price: $4,999.99.
