DIGIDESIGN D-SHOW PROFILE
December 2006—Digidesign's (www.digidesign.com) D-Show Profile offers a size-conscious alternative to the D-Show flagship console/controller in its VENUE live mixer line. D-Show Profile is compatible with all existing VENUE hardware and software, including stage and front-of-house racks for connecting to Pro Tools HD and Pro Tools LE systems via a hardware option. D-Show Profile also offers expanded show control options with the new General Purpose Interface (GPI). Its eight GPI I/Os allow D-Show Profile to send or respond to external equipment via simple switch closures for automation cues, etc. Because D-Show and D-Show Profile operate on the same D-Show control software and operating system, users won't have to learn new software or rebuild their console settings from scratch when moving between VENUE mixing consoles.

DIGIDESIGN VENUE OPTIONS
September 2006—On the live side, Digidesign announces Digital Stage Input (DSI) and Digital Stage Output (DSO) card options for its VENUE live sound environment, each providing eight channels of AES/EBU or ADAT Lightpipe I/Os. And on the DSOs, the AES and ADAT outputs are active for simplified simultaneous splits to recording/monitoring/broadcast feeds. VENUE D-Show 2 software supports DSO/DSI and adds numerous other features, including snapshot enhancements, a preview mode, absolute and relative edit modes, channel strip cut/copy/paste, split fader banking and more.

DIGIDESIGN VENUE
September 2005—Based around the D-Show mixing console, Digidesign’s VENUE system features an expandable DSP mix engine. A standard VENUE includes 48 mic inputs and can run 64 input channels with 24 graphic EQs and enough DSP power for dozens of plug-ins. All channels feature a remote-controlled head amp, delay, 4-band parametric EQ with analog emulation mode and dual dynamics processors. VENUE includes D-Verb, delay, pitch and dynamic plug-ins, and supports plug-ins from other manufacturers. The Assignable Channel Section (ACS) enables adjustment of all parameters for any selected channel. Optional sidecars may be added to increase fader count. VENUE’s 19-inch Stage Rack provides analog audio I/O for stage signals, accommodating up to 48 remote-controlled mic/line preamps and A/D converters. The FOH Rack contains the D-Show mix engine and furnishes audio connectivity at the mix position. Automation includes snapshot store/recall (999 scenes), MIDI program change and response to incoming footswitch events or MTC cues. VENUE can be interfaced directly to Pro Tools using Digidesign’s FWx card or TDM Record Option. A standard VENUE system is $62,995.

DIGIDESIGN VENUE
December 2004—Digidesign dove into the live digital console fray with VENUE, its digital mixing system that supports up to 48 inputs and 48 outputs in each stage rack. The basic control surface has 8-input and 8-output banks on either side of a master control section that incorporates a super channel. Adding sidecars increases the surface to 56 input faders. In addition to onboard EQ and dynamics, plug-in software can be installed to employ almost any studio effect, controlled either onscreen with the trackball or using assignable encoders. A FireWire option allows 18 Pro Tools LE tracks to be recorded onto a Windows XP laptop, with plans for 32 LE tracks and a Pro Tools|HD link next year.

DIGIDESIGN VENUE LIVE SOUND ENVIRONMENT
November 2004—The Digidesign VENUE is a new state-of-the-art live sound console environment. Purpose-built with the rigorous requirements of live sound in mind, VENUE embodies an ideal synergy of excellent sound quality, flexibility and expandability. VENUE components include the D-Show mixing console, a digital mixing engine, mix position digital and analog connections, stage-located remote-control mic preamps and a digital multicore snake replacement. VENUE also supports effects plug-ins and features an integrated Pro Tools recording and playback option.

DIGIDESIGN PRE
July 2004—The popular PRE ($2,495) from Digidesign is a remote-controllable, 8-channel mic preamp featuring discrete, matched transistor hybrid preamp circuits. Designed to perfectly complement the 192kHz-capable Pro Tools|HD recording environment, the PRE accepts a variety of input signals — mic, line and DI — on all eight channels. Per channel, the PRE offers 48-volt phantom power, a highpass filter, phase invert, balanced inserts and an -18dB pad. A total of nine pre's can be chained together, offering 72 channels of preamplification. The PRE's remote capabilities are controlled via Pro Tools software or any Digidesign control surface, which is particularly intriguing considering the company's recently announced foray into the sound reinforcement market. With reports of a live console system shipping before the end of this year, the flexible PRE looks more appealing for event use than ever before.
