EAW UX8800
October 2006—This rack-mount digital processor brings EAW's revolutionary Gunness Focusing technology to a broad range of existing EAW (www.eaw.com) loudspeaker systems. Gunness Focusing is a unique DSP technology that corrects the sonic problems inherent in conventional compression driver phase plugs, horns and LF driver technology. As a result, Gunness Focusing allows horn-loaded loudspeakers to deliver sonic performance comparable to premium direct radiating studio monitors, but at the much higher output levels required in sound reinforcement applications.
EAW UMX.96
September 2006—Still in development, EAW's UMX.96 24-bit/96kHz digital live console features expandable 56×44 analog I/O, 3×12 integrated loudspeaker processing and full integration of SIA SmaartLive, giving users immediate access to system measurement and calibration. Onboard EQ, crossovers and limiters allow speaker alignment, audio distribution and zoning to be done directly from the mixer.
EAWUBIQUITY NETWORKING
March 2006—Does the world really need another proprietary networking protocol? Maybe so, says Eastern Acoustics Works, whose Ubiquity networking concept goes beyond basic routing and control. Ubiquity is said to provide the granularity for handling complex data streams such as beam steering parameters and tweaking single drivers in clusters/arrays. Unlike Ethernet subnets’ star topologies, Ubiquity’s mesh networking offers self-healing pathways, telephone-style addressing of devices in the system and SmaartLive support directly from EAW’s new UMX.96 digital mixer. Hardware bridges allow interfacing to other protocols or third-party gear.
EAW DIGITAL TOURING CONSOLE
December 2005—The umx.96 from EAW is a 24-bit, 96kHz digital live console with expandable 56x44 analog I/O and 3x12 integrated system processor — all for a projected list price of less than $50,000. The master section has a 15-inch touch-sensitive LCD with a dynamic rotary encoder that can change its “feel” depending on the selected parameter. The channel section has 48 P&G touch-sensitive faders in stacked rows of 24 for simultaneous control of all 48 input channels or assignment in master groups of eight to specific sections. The umx.96 is the first console to fully integrate all of SIA SmaartLive's measurement capabilities for instant system measurement and calibration. Additionally, onboard EQ, crossovers, filters and limiters allow loudspeaker alignment, audio distribution and zoning to be done directly from the mixer. EAW's revolutionary new Gunness Focusing™ technology will be incorporated through an optional processing card.
EAW DIGITAL UMX.96
November 2005—Eastern Acoustic Works sought input from hundreds of end-users to help define its new umx.96 digital mixing solution. The result is a mixer with everything but the kitchen sink, and the answer to most questions is “It’s in there.” An onboard 3x12 speaker processor, integrated SmaartLive, 15-inch touchscreen, tri-color assignment buttons, a 24/96 mix engine, 48 mic pre’s, eight stereo line inputs, 24 aux/group buses, 16x8 matrix, four stereo multi-effects...the list goes on, and it’s expandable to double the number of inputs.
EAW JFXI SERIES
February 2005—EAW expands its popular JFX Series with the JFXi portable two-way speakers. All six new models feature EAW's new Orbital Magnet Array woofers, using individual magnets around the voicecoil and pole rather than a solid ring, thus enhancing airflow through the magnet structure to increase thermal capacity and reduce power compression. A scalloped outer profile generates greater flux density for higher sensitivity and is said to provide lower distortion and improved LF transients. JFXi 10-inch and 15-inch woofer cones are Fiberglas-filled and coated for moisture protection. Compression drivers use highly damped titanium diaphragms and neodymium magnets for clear high frequencies. Like the other JFX Series, the JFXi models have multi-angle enclosures that work equally well on stands, walls, floors and ceilings.
EAW KF760 SERIES
January 2005—The KF760 Series from EAW comprises the KF760 and KF761 three-way modules, and the BH760 subwoofer. The KF760 uses two horn-loaded 12-inch woofers for the LF, two horn-loaded 10-inch cones for the mids and two 2-inch exit/3-inch voice coil horn-loaded compression drivers for the HF. The KF761 uses two 12-inch horn-loaded woofers for the LF, two 8-inch slot-loaded cone-type drivers for the mids and one 2-inch exit/3-inch voice coil horn-loaded compression driver for the HF. Frequency response for an individual enclosure (both KF760 and KF761) is 80 to 16k Hz. The BH760 subwoofer uses two 12-inch woofers in a bent-horn design. Baltic birch plywood construction is used in all three models. The smaller KF730 Series incorporates two modules: the bi-amped KF730 and the SB730 subwoofer. A single MF/HF horn fills the entire face of the KF730 to maintain horizontal pattern control throughout the MF/HF passband. This module uses two 7-inch horn-loaded cone drivers for the mids and two 1-inch exit-compression drivers for the HF. Two side-mounted 10-inch cone drivers handle the LF. The SB730 subwoofer employs dual 12-inch cone drivers in a vented cabinet design.
EAW DSAPilot SOFTWARE VERSION 1.2
November 2004—Eastern Acoustic Works has released DSAPilot™ V. 1.2 software for its innovative Digitally Steerable Array™ (DSA) Series loudspeaker system. DSAPilot provides a simple control interface for adjusting the vertical coverage pattern of up to 32 DSA loudspeakers. DSAPilot V. 1.2 also includes SPL mapping in listener area, drag/drop room definitions, a selectable amplifier shutdown timer, support of more cluster types and six parametric filters on each input.
EAW JFXI SERIES
November 2004—EAW adds six new models into its JFX Series of portable two-way loudspeakers. The JFX100i, JFX200i, JFX260i, JFX290i, JFX560i and JFX590i incorporate new woofers using EAW's new Orbital Magnet Array that uses small magnets around the voice coil and pole. This enhances airflow through the magnet structure for reduced power compression, a more consistent magnetic field, less distortion and better transients. All JFX products feature unique multi-angle enclosures that work equally well on stands, walls, floors and ceilings, and a complete range of hardware options.
EAW AX SERIES ARRAYABLE LOUDSPEAKERS
September 2004—The new AX Series loudspeakers from Eastern Acoustic Works are engineered to array seamlessly, with a tri-axial design that incorporates a revolutionary new coaxial driver. The coaxial mid/high-frequency driver combines an 8-inch cone and a 1.4-inch exit compression driver into a sealed aluminum chassis that acts as the heat sink for the entire assembly. Both drivers share a single neodymium magnet, reducing weight and cost. Dual 12-inch woofers (located on opposite ends of the enclosure) create an acoustic origin on-axis with the rotatable, coaxial MF/HF driver. For use in horizontal and vertical arrays, the enclosure has trapezoidal angles on all four sides. Three models are available in dispersions from 45°x45° to 90°x60°.
EAW KF850ZF, KF850ZR
May 2004—Eastern Acoustic Works' industry-standard KF850s got better. The new KF850zF (flyable) and KF850zR (road) versions include new internal components, such as Radial Phase Plugs, a neodymium Orbital Magnet Array HF driver, new HF horn and new dual 1,000W 18-inch woofers.

The KF730's 16-ohm, passive, MF/HF subsystem has two 1-in exit HF and two 7-in MF drivers that share one large horn. The 16-ohm LF subsystem's two Phase Aligned™ 12-in drivers provide horizontal pattern control to 160 Hz. The SB730's two 12-in drivers use a tightly coupled “clamshell” arrangement for increased output. The integral suspension system is 6061-T6 structural aluminum.
EAW KF730
July 2003—EAW's KF730 is a three-way, bi-amped speaker whose entire face is the mouth of a mid-high horn for its dual 7s and dual 1-inch exit compression drivers. Ten-inch woofers are mounted on the two ends of the enclosure. A companion sub, the SB730, employs a pair of high-excursion 12s in a clam-shell arrangement.
EAW DIGITALLY STEERED ARRAY SERIES
May 2003—By far the most intriguing product at NSCA was from EAW. Here, a returning Ken Berger (welcome back, Ken!) introduced its Digitally Steered Array (DSA) Series based on technology derived from the company's large-format KF900 system. The series includes the DSA250 full-range, two-way, self-powered speaker column (about $6,000 list), with onboard DSP and 16 channels of amplification for eight 4-inch woofers and eight horn-loaded 1-inch dome tweeters. Windows-based DSAPilot software allows users to control and vary the speaker’s vertical coverage in real time. During a single-box demo, Berger's voice could be clearly heard moving across the listening area. While intended for houses of worship, applications from Broadway to theme parks also come to mind. The DSA230 LF module extends the overall array with eight more woofers.
EAW KF730 SLAM
April 2003—Described by company founder Ken Berger as "...smaller than anything this loud, or louder than anything this small," the KF730 Small Line Array Module (SLAM) from EAW packs a six-driver, horn-loaded KF Series design into a mini enclosure that can be scaled to handle venues from 50 to several thousand. It uses unique side-firing 10-inch woofers, so the enclosure is only 29x18x13 inches (WxDxH), including the wide 110° horn pushed by twin 7-inch cone mids and two 1-inch HF drivers. Flying/array hardware and a matching dual-12 sub are also offered.
