SAMSON UHF SYNTH SERIES SIX
November 2006—The UHF Synth Series Six from Samson Technologies (www.samsontech.com) uses two independent, synthesized receivers ($2,199.99) in one rackspace and works with a variety of popular handheld mics, offering 101 channels in two frequency spectrums — 782.125 to 793.875 MHz and 794.125 to 807.875 MHz. A spectrum-analyzer feature scans for the clearest available frequencies, and up to 96 systems can operate simultaneously at 1mW power or up to 22 systems at 10mW power. The receiver has balanced XLR and unbalanced ¼-inch outs, and its backlit LCD shows channel and frequency selection, mute, tone, squelch, receiver ID and more. Its power supply senses voltages automatically. Transmitters ($609.99) are powered by AA batteries. The system can be controlled remotely with a PC using Samson's WSM (Wireless System Manager) software.
SAMSON C05
July 2005—The C05 ($175) from Samson is a cardioid condenser designed for high sensitivity and extended frequency response. Built into a lightweight, compact body, the C05 can easily be a handheld for long periods without fatigue. Internal shock-mounting reduces handling noise, while the tight pattern minimizes feedback and rejects off-axis sound. The C05 requires 48V phantom power. Frequency response is 50 to 18k Hz with a max. SPL of 130 dB (0.5% THD); impedance is 200 ohms.
SAMSON Q7
July 2005—Samson's Q7 ($199) dynamic mic has a low-mass neodymium element with a supercardioid pattern, internal shock isolation and built-in windscreen. Its die-cast zinc-alloy housing ensures reliable performance under demanding conditions. Frequency response is 80 to 12k Hz; impedance is 200 ohms.
SAMSON WIRELESS UHF SYNTH 32 SYSTEM
July 2002—The Samson Wireless UHF Synth 32 system ($1,024.98, with Sennheiser's MKE-2 omni-directional lavalier) provides 32 user-selectable UHF frequencies (from 801 to 805 MHz) in both the receiver and transmitter units. Shipping now, the Synth 32 sports a compact half-rack receiver with a large front panel LCD, and features like-PLL-synthesized VCO transmitter circuitry, the company's Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) filters and built-in noise squelching. Additional features include balanced XLR and unbalanced ¼-inch outputs, battery life indicators and a 3-pin mini-XLR connector.
SAMSON Q1
May 2001—Samson's Q1 ($400) is a cardioid
condenser mic slated for live and project studio recording use. Like
