ZAXCOM DIGITAL WIRELESS SYSTEM
November 2006—Zaxcom's (www.zaxcom.com) digital wireless system ($1,850) includes its handheld digital wireless microphone. The system operates between 536 and 850 MHz in 25MHz frequency blocks. It can run for approximately four hours powered by two AA lithium ion batteries. The handheld microphone system is encrypted and completely digital (no companding), with digital modulation and audio quality equivalent to a hardwired microphone. The company's handheld can be used with any standard wireless screw-on Shure capsule.
ZAXCOM TRX900
May 2005—Zaxcom was showing its second-generation TRX900 digital wireless bodypack transmitter with an integrated wireless IFB receiver. One lithium 123 battery provides five hours of operation. Body pack audio gain, RF channel frequency, highpass filter, transmitter RF power and other significant settings are adjustable via remote control from the IFB transmitter module. Ninety minutes of 24-bit audio can be recorded and played back via commands from the IFB transmitter, and it has timecode capability.
ZAXCOM DIGITAL WIRELESS WITH NEUMANN KK-105 S HEAD
November 2004—The Zaxcom handheld digital wireless transmitter is now capable of working with the Neumann KK-105 S capsule head. Together, they provide a sound so superior it can only be matched by a hardwired microphone. Retail: $4,000.
ZAXCOM WIRELESS DIGITAL SYSTEM
July 2002—Zaxcom's Wireless Digital System ($3,940, with beltpack) began shipping last year as the first digital wireless system for the television and film industries. With a receiver measuring only 4.5×1.2×6 inches and a 2×3-inch transmitter (smaller transmitters are available), the Wireless Digital System also offers several significant audio advantages: 24-bit/96kHz audio conversion, secure transmissions, alignment-free digital filtering/compression, very low THD and a 117dB dynamic range. Zaxcom's system operates between 500 and 1,000 MHz, and can be ordered in blocks of 25 MHz. Other features include by far the industry's smallest transmitter, pushbutton transmitter control, and analog and AES/EBU digital receiver I/O.
