TAPCO ACTIVE MONITORS
June 2005—Tapco's (www.tapcogear.com) active monitors include the S·5 and S·8 and the accompanying S·10 subwoofer. The $499/pair S·5 and $749/pair S·8 are two-way desktop designs and employ a waveguide-loaded 1-inch silk-dome tweeter. The S·5 has a 5.25-inch, polypropylene cone woofer; the S·8's is 8-inch. Power for both the LF and HF sections is 60W for both models. Frequency response (±3 dB) is rated at 64 to 20k Hz for the S·5; the S·8 is 40 to 20k Hz (±3 dB). Both include balanced TRS/XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs. The optional $419 S·10 Active Studio subwoofer uses a steel-frame, dual voice-coil 10-inch woofer and onboard 120W amp that takes it down to 34 Hz.

TAPCO ACTIVE SUBWOOFER
October 2004—The new Tapco SW-10 Active Studio Subwoofer features the same construction and distinctive industrial design as the company's S-Series monitors. The on-board amplifier supplies the 10-inch woofer with 120 watts of continuous power. Rear panel connections include one pair of XLR balanced inputs and one pair of RCA unbalanced inputs. Stereo highpass outputs are provided in the form of XLR balanced and RCA unbalanced. Input sensitivity and polarity controls are provided as well. A unique feature for a product at its price point is the SW-10’s 4th-order, 24dB/octive Linkwitz-Riley crossover that is variable independently from 55-110Hz on both the left and right channels. By providing independent crossover controls for both channels one and two, the SW-10 can be multi-purposed in a 5.1 configuration. Retail is $419.

TAPCO S-8 ACTIVE STUDIO MONITORS
April, 2004—The 8-inch S-8 from Tapco is a two-way, bi-amplified monitor with dual high-precision internal amplifiers that deliver a total of 120 watts RMS (60 watts for the woofer and 60 watts for the tweeter). Like the S-5, the S-8 offers the same 1-inch waveguide-loaded silk-dome tweete. Rear panel controls allow for acoustic tailoring with low-frequency boost and high-frequency cut/boost switches. Inputs include 1/4-inch TRS/XLR balanced and RCA unbalanced. All rear panel controls and connections are recessed into a high-quality amplifier panel. The front panel includes separate power and clipping LEDs. The S-8 retail at $749 per pair.
